Continued economic uncertainty: America's economy remains sluggish due to excessive, overbearing government controls and regulations choking the private-sector and small business growth.
The best way to stimulate economic growth
is for government to step out of the way through low taxes, reduced small business regulation and less restriction on resource development. Controls on the economy and cumbersome laws and regulations must be removed to allow a strong private-sector and small
businesses to flourish, the traditional foundation of our economy and key to America's prosperity.
Ted Stevens and I were targeted by the so-called U.S. Department of "Justice" and were forced to defend ourselves at great personal cost. As with
Stevens, I've never been afraid to stand up for what is right and fight the bureaucracy. The Justice Department has a long history of abusing defendants by lying and cheating in court, deliberately concealing evidence and ignoring the constitution
- something Stevens and I experienced first-hand and found devastating. Unscrupulous prosecutors are often more interested in a conviction at any cost rather than seeking truth and justice and determining one's guilt or innocence. If elected, I will work to
"Each time a man stands up for an ideal… or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope… which can sweep down the
mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." ~ Robert F. Kennedy, Capetown, South Africa, 1966
Also go to Guest Columns to review articles I've written, mostly during
my tenure in the Alaska Legislature, which express my opinion on various issues.
Washington continues to interfere with Alaska's right to develop our resources. ANWR and the National Petroleum Reserve should be opened for exploration and development. I will also work to remove bureaucratic
obstacles and keep taxes low to energize the oil and gas, mining, timber and fishing industries.
I am of the Christian faith. I'm also pro-life and was a frequent recipient of Alaska Right to Life's endorsement while in the legislature.
As a private matter, I don't believe in same-sex marriage and supported past legislative efforts to define marriage as a union between a man and woman, although gays should be afforded the same constitutional, legal and basic human rights as anyone. Moreover,
government should not sanction any marriage and instead leave it to churches and private organizations.
Obamacare must be repealed. Until passage of the new health care law, America had the best medical system in the world.
But it's now burdened with excessive government controls and unecessary IRS oversight. A strong, competitive market place works best.
The U.S. Department of Education is a cumbersome, wasteful bureaucracy that should be abolished. I
support vouchers to give parents more options to provide the best educational opportunites for their children. Also, expanding charter schools and encouraging home schooling should be a priority.
Quality health care is crucial
to ensure veterans are always provided prompt, professional medical attention when needed.
As a Life Member of the NRA, I'm a strong advocate of our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I consistently received "A-plus" ratings
from the NRA as a state legislator based on my voting record.
